Wow! Now that is something I never even dreamed of doing.

So, my mother is a teacher at a small private school. Bless her heart, she teaches kindergarten and first grade. Can you imagine? I would die. Not that I don’t like kids. I do. But to be stuck in a room with so many of them at one time all day every day — bless her heart. She is really great at it, though and those kids love her. See below for proof. :)

Last monday I get a call from her. The photographer that was coming to do their school pictures was told not to come because he pitched a fit about having orders in advance. Now, let me just pause here and say I get it. I understand the costs that must be involved in sending out thousands and thousands of proof sheets and getting back a few orders. I do. But I am also a parent and have been on the other side of it. I have paid $10 in advance for a 5×7 that ended up being focused on the wall behind my children! Not a fan of that at all. Seriously.

OK, I digress. So the school told him they didn’t know he needed the orders in advance, hadn’t taken any and just don’t come. Then my mom says, “My daughter can do it. Rose Louise Carol Anne”. (If you don’t get it, come see Gypsy at the Hickory Community Theater this weekend! It’ll all make sense) She calls me up and says can you come? Tomorrow? Be here by 8:30? “sure!” I say. And then I stop and realize that her school is 2 hours away. Ugh.

But I did it. I got up at the wee hours of the morning and lugged my sleepy butt over to Christ the King Christian Academy. First, I was greeted by my mother and her entire class in the parking lot. Then, they all volunteered to help me unload. Can I just say, it is so darn cute to see two kindergartners carrying a giant softbox from UNDERNEATH. Wish I would’ve had the camera out for that one.

So with no time to arrange the school colors for a backdrop and outside wasn’t an option, we went with good ol’ white. I had a blast with a great group of kids! I told the principal’s wife that the kids really were a testament to the wonderful job all of the staff is doing over there.

I will leave you with my mom and her class. We did “serious” class pictures and then individuals as well, but my mom wanted this one, too. Love you, Mommy!

Now that is a school picture I would have bought for my kids. I stopped buying pictures because there was no personality. This picture has life, color and personality. It could be an ad shot. I might even buy a copy – my kid isn’t even in this class, but I sure wish he was. Heck, I wish I was in this class. They all look so happy. Congratulations and thanks for sharing the blog.
